"2012" - NASA's TAKE? MAYBE

Godzilla has nothing to do with story

A friend of mine sent me this link to NASA's take on "2012". Naturally, it pooh poohs all the "doomsday" stuff that has been associated with the date. What, the gov is going to tell You the real deal? Either way, they never mention anything about stuff that HAS happened and WILL happen again. Like Yellowstone, tecktonic plate shifts, San Andreas etc..enjoy the read!!

By the way, "nobody ever said the "world would end". Defragged and re-booted maybe, but not end!

"2012" The Movie - Review

Let me start by saying, "2012" the movie, is just that, a movie. There are two perspectives going on here however. One is the movie/entertainment aspect. The second is the science and history and prophecy aspects of the movie.

Based on what I saw, most, if not all, is very possible. Most of what is in the movie concerning the events that pretty much "defrag and reboot" the Earth, have happened in the past history of this planet. And yes, if they occurred again in our lifetime, "we are so screwed". However, "it is not the end of civilization".

There were a ton of adults in the theatre for the showing I saw. There were also way to many younger kids that I do not think needed to be there. The movie is dark and depressing, as it should be for the "end of days". It is pretty heavy and intense. It is not an "uplifting" tale.

However, from the pure entertainment factor, the special effects are awesome, and, the characters were pretty good. It is an edge of your seat ride. Props to Roland Emmerich. I will see this movie again. As I always say, "pay attention, this could be more than "just a movie".

Question for those of You that have seen "2012"? How many of You think that those arcs are actually being built, or, have been built somewhere on the planet? Leave me a comment or send me an email reggae8@aol.com

Computer(pc)Backup and Problems

Hey friends, family and associates, I am finally back up and running on the old pc. At last! My pc started jerking me around in August and just got progressively worse until it would do nothing. For those of YOU who don't know me that well, let me assure YOU I am very aware of the stuff You can pick up and take as many precautions as possible to avoid this kind of crap. However, there are things going on that You cannot defend against because, You don't know they are going on till it's too late.

This is what my IT guy, who is very good, found was causing my problems.

A) Found 100+ high risk and severe risk trojans and spyware

B) McAfee Anti-Virus program was corrupted causing system slow downs and not protecting the computer.

C) Panda Cloud was also corrupted and causing system slowdowns and not stopping viruses, malware and spyware

My guy managed to remove all of the bad stuff and installed AVG for protection. It took him forever and a day. The reason he did this was to save me from losing important stuff on my hard drive that I had not backed up. Otherwise, he just would have formatted my drive and reloaded Windows Xp or Windows 7 and I would have lost everything on my computer.

What I did next, is what YOU need to do if You have not already. I got a 4 gigabyte flash drive and downloaded all my important stuff to it. It is so easy to do, morons could do it. If my computer screws up again, I just have to reload the operating system and go on about my business. All my important files, pictures, music etc are on my little tiny flash drive. Which, plugs right into a usb port.

Save yourself some grief, it is only a matter of time before the pc gremlins get your stuff jacked up. By the way, my guy recommends Windows 7 "professional" 32 bit.

Les Paul - His Story

"When I was a kid there was only one person in my hometown that played the guitar, and that was me. It was all piano in the old days. The guitar was rare.

What we did was take an acoustical instrument -- which was a very apologetic, wonderful, meek instrument -- and turned it into a pit bull. And that's what happened -- the guitar started to become more important in Waukesha, Wisc., the Chicago area, the Midwest. In 1930, I was already playing on the electric guitar, playing in a little bar in Cleveland, in Rochester, some state fairs. I played Ithaca, Binghamton, Rochester, all the way up to Boston, just everywhere you could play between Chicago and New York, exposing this instrument to all the players or those that would like to be players. Soon everybody wanted a guitar. It was just unbelievable. The people were running up and down the street going from one store to the other.

And there was no such thing as amplifiers, so I had to build my own -- I took my mother's radio and I turned it into one. I did the same thing with a guitar. I just took the guitar and said, 'Hey, it's not loud enough.' I was playing a little barbecue stand halfway to Milwaukee and some critic that was sitting in the backseat of a car, ordering a sandwich, wrote a note that said, 'You know, what you're doing right out there is great, but your guitar is not loud enough.' So I went home and told mom about it. She said, 'You'll figure it out, you'll figure it out.' What I figured out was how to make that guitar louder and better. First, I took an acoustical guitar and ended up filling it with Plaster of Paris. I tried everything, and it finally worked. I said, 'I'm gonna make two guitars, one out of wood and one out of a big long piece of railroad track and make both of them identical.' I used the same telephone for a pickup, the part that you listen to on the telephone, the magnet and the coil. I placed that under the string and I was just playing through my mother's radio. Between the wooden guitar and the metal one, the railroad track was much better. I ran to my mother, saying, 'I found it! I found it!' My mother said, 'The day you see a cowboy on a horse playing a railroad track,' and she blew me right out of the water with that. I said, 'It's got to be wood. Okay, we're gonna make it the most beautiful piece of dense wood that will be as close to that railroad track as we can get with that good sound.'

I remember I would go into a club in the very early days with my electric. I didn't care who was there with his saxophone or trumpet or piano or drums, I could drown them out. It became a monster, from a wimp to a monster.

I think of the impact often. I was lucky young kids came along -- Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck -- and said, 'I wanna do that."

Thank YOU Les Paul. Had it not been for him, who knows where music might have been today. As a guitarist, as far as I am concerned, there are only two guitars; a Les Paul and a Stratocaster. I am in search of my next Les Paul.

Michael Jackson & Farrah Fawsett RIP

I still cannot believe the events of the day. First, we lose Farrah, which was kind of expected due to the recent circumstances, and then, "Michael Jackson has died at 50 in Los Angeles". My first reaction, "what"?

In both cases however, I feel that from a "spiritual" perspective, "they are both probably relieved and happy". The pressures and other mitigating circumstances that are on us as we go through this life(incarnation)on this planet, sometimes can be more than we bargained for. Death, and crossing over to the other side again, is usually the only way to escape. It is usually harder for the loved ones left behind then it is for the ones crossing.

I first met MJ when he was 12 years old with the Jackson5 on their first trip to NY and the Apollo Theatre. My godfather, Honey Coles, was the gm there and I had access to backstage for the Motown Review. All the Jackson crew and fam were great. I saw MJ one or two times after that briefly in NY. Then like everyone else, "I just followed his awesome career. One of my favorite songs by MJ, is, "They Don't Really Care About Us". Check out the video. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCqQ2JcQWGs&feature=channel

Sade - New Music Coming

Back For More: Singer Sade Readies New Music

Reclusive vocalist Sade is preparing a new CD and her record company anticipates the disc hitting stores by the year's end.

BV Buzz reported in Aug. 2007 that the sultry soul singer, known for her über-extended hiatuses, was spotted leaving the Sony Music building in New York City where she had just come from meeting with executives at Epic Records, the label she's been signed to as a solo artist since 1983.

Billboard.com is now reporting that Sade (full name Sade Adu) has reunited with her former band members and will be in the studio cutting new tracks until the end of June. A fan site for the 50-year-old Grammy winner,
http://www.sade2009.com/ has a message in its introduction that reads: "The most anticipated music, by the most soulful artist, just in time for the holidays."

That site is what generated speculation into the current status Sadeof the Nigerian-born singer's recording endeavors and caused Billboard to probe for answers.

Sade's longtime band member Stuart Matthewman, also known as Cottonbelly, confirmed to the trade publication that new material is being recorded.

Matthewman claimed that the process was still in its "early days" and won't be close to being finished until "later in the year."

Nonetheless, news of new music has excited Sade fans, who haven't had a new release from the singer since 2000's 'Lovers Rock,' which sold 3.8 million copies in the U.S.

This is some of the best news I have heard musically lately! Sade has always been one of my favorites. Her voice and persona are unreal. She personified sexy classy. Can't wait for the new stuff. In the meantime, go back and reminisce with alive version of "Paradise".

Rejuvenating Myspace

MySpace's new CEO promises innovation

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) - The new leaders of News Corp. (NWS) (NWSA)'s MySpace said Wednesday they need to innovate to rejuvenate the social networking site, which has suffered from stalled user growth.

Owen Van Natta didn't detail specifics but indicated that the ability to make changes to the site was a reason he took the job of MySpace chief executive last month.

"When I look at MySpace there's just so much opportunity to build," Van Natta said at The Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference. "I took the job because there's a lot more that can be done around innovation."

Though praised for its substantial entertainment content, MySpace has been criticized for falling behind rival Facebook when it comes to technology. Its worldwide user base has also stagnated at about 130 million, compared with Facebook's 200 million.

"Certainly we're not the darling of the press right now, I think that's pretty clear," he said.

Van Natta, a former Facebook executive, said success would require trial and error, with failures along the way. He said it's starting from a strong place with millions of users.

MySpace, based in Beverly Hills, Calif., has distinguished itself from Facebook by allowing users to be "super-creative" in designing their pages, Van Natta said.

"I'm a big believer in personalization," he said. "Our job is to make MySpace really, really great for everybody, and that means that the experience has to be different for everybody."

Van Natta fielded questions for nearly an hour with Jonathan Miller, a former chief executive at AOL who was recently named chief digital officer of News Corp., the New York-based media conglomerate that also owns the Journal.

Miller acknowledged Facebook is a rival but that the growth in social networking leaves plenty of room for both.

"Yes, I think Facebook is a competitor but it's also fine to have competitors," Miller said. "I don't think it's going to be a winner-take-all game at all."

A substantial amount of MySpace's revenue comes from a $900 million, three-year ad-sharing deal it began with Internet search leader Google Inc. (GOOG) (GOOG) in 2007. That deal expires in August 2010.

Miller said a new agreement with Google might involve other News Corp. Web sites.

I am glad to see Myspace taking some initiative and moving forward. I always liked Myspace and still think in many ways they are different and superior to Facebook. They both have a place. Be interesting to see where Myspace takes itself. I am along for the ride! www.myspace.com/akuasharpe

Terminator: Salvation & District 9

Went to see the new "Terminator" movie on Thursday night. It was really good for what it is. An action, violent, shoot 'em up trip. They did a great job with the effects and action sequences. It was "edge of your seat" pacing for the most part. I would go and see it again! I will give it 3 stars for the action and entertainment.

One of the previews we saw, which I am chomping at the bit for this movie to come out, is "District 9". It has a Halo and Lord Of The Rings connect. Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp.Check out the video/trailer. This could be a summer sleeper.

iPhone, My Phone

Black is 8gig White is 16gig
It has been one month now since I got my "iPhone." It is one of the greatest gadgets humans have ever come up with! No wonder everyone that has one is thrilled to the max. This thing is a phone, a laptop, a camera, a gps device and more all rolled into one. AND, it is easy to use and learn! In a month, I have NOT even opened the users manual yet. I have pretty much figured out stuff on my own or, from people I know that have them.

A couple of things that I have heard grumblings about are: the camera cannot zoom, nor does it have a flash. It also does not shoot video. However, that will be corrected very soon I am told. The one thing I would like corrected is, "not being able to watch some video etc. because the phone is not "flash" compatible. Hopefully, that will be addressed soon also.

Cost wise, if YOU do a 2 year contract with AT&T, it cost YOU about $200 for the phone and $30 a month(on top of your calling plan)for the whole wireless 3G experience. Just cancel your newspaper subscription and YOU have the $30. Plus, YOU can get all your news online as it happens instead of waiting for the paper.

There are other touch screen phones out there, but, as Hammer would say, they "can't touch this"!

Santana To Obama, "Legalize The Weed"

Carlos Santana Tells Obama To Legalize Pot

Well, it's not quite 4/20, but why not? Carlos Santana is calling for President Obama to make pot legal. During a junket to promote his upcoming residency at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the legendary guitarist asked the president to give it serious consideration.

"Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education," Santana told the Huffington Post. "You will see a transformation in America."

Santana said making weed legal is "really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and stuff like that," adding, "I really believe that as soon as we legalize and decriminalize marijuana we can actually afford a really good governor who won't keep taking money away from education and from teachers and send him back to Hollywood where he can do 'D' movies and we can get an 'A' governor." Santana was, of course, referring to former movie action hero and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Santana's remarks were in response to a question about legalization that were raised to Obama during his online town hall on March 26. At the time Obama fielded a question about whether legalization of the illicit drug would help pull the nation out of recession. Obama said he didn't think it was good economic policy, and also joked: "I don't know what this says about the online audience."

I have been saying for years and years, "LEGALIZE IT". Stop listening to these idiots out here with their limp "gateway drug" argument against it. Herb is no worse than alcohol, beer, and over the counter or script drugs. If Obama doesn't do it, someone will sooner than later.

Porn Loving Religious Conservatives

Porn in the USA: Conservatives are Biggest Consumers

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says.

The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. And again, eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election--Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama.

Churchgoers bought less online porn on Sundays--a 1% increase in a postal code's religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. Not to worry, though: expenditures on other days of the week brought churchgoers in line with the rest of the country.

See, all these bible banging, holier than thou christians and conservatives are just as fun loving and dirty as the rest of us. Actually, "even more so"! Quit being hypocrites and just fess up to the fact that YOU enjoy the online "wild thing" and leave the rest of us alone.

Godzilla 3-D To The Max- He's Back!

"A new monster called Deathla, appears and awakens Godzilla from hibernation in the Iguazu Falls, located between Argentina and Brazil. A battle ensues and progressed to Mexico City and finally concludes in Las Vegas."

In 1971, Toho released Godzilla vs. Hedorah (Gojira tai Hedorah, aka Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster). Director Yoshimitsu Banno focused on concerns about environmental pollution by depicting Godzilla's battle with Hedorah, a sludge-like alien that emerged from the dirty waters of Sagami Bay. Thirty-four years later the director is hard at work prepping a new Godzilla project that will revisit those themes. Entitled Godzilla: 3-D to the Max, the planned short feature will combine the talents of Toho Studios with cutting-edge Hollywood CG and 3-D effects, all on display on the eight- story tall IMAX movie screen.

The AAP materials describe Banno's intentions for both Godzilla and the new version of Hedorah, which is named Deathla (not Desera or 'Deathorah.). While recent Godzilla films have depicted the monster as antagonistic towards mankind, Godzilla: 3-D to the Max returns Godzilla to his heroic "Save the Earth" persona of the 1970s. One of the director's top objectives for the film is that Godzilla appeal to young people and demonstrate the importance of adopting a more "Earth Friendly" way of living. In addition to a personality change, the King of the Monsters will also display a talent long unseen... that's right, Godzilla flies again!

The crew for the film features a mix of personnel from Japan and America, many of which have a long history with large format and 3-D films. In addition to directing the film, Yoshimitsu Banno is also the lead writer and general producer. Banno's longtime assistant Kenji Okuhira is associate producer. The co-producers are Roger Holden (president of Whitecat Productions and 21st Century Sound and Vision Inc.) and Brian Rogers (T2 3D: Battle Across Time). Acting as co-director is Keith Melton (Cirque Du Soleil, Journey of Man). Godzilla series veteran Eiichi Asada (Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, Godzilla FInal Wars) returns to direct the special effects, while Peter Anderson (Captain EO, T2 3D, Shrek 2 4D) is the director of photography and supervisor of visual effects.

To tap into this market and expand Godzilla's audience around the world, AAP and Toho are also discussing a wide variety of TV specials, DVDs, CDs, toys, books and other merchandising featuring Godzilla, Deathla and Godzilla: 3-D to the Max. If everything goes according to plans, Godzilla may soon literally be bigger than ever before.

The story for Godzilla: 3-D to the Max begins at dawn, as a flaming meteor from the Deathla Star crashes into the Sargasso Sea. The meteor releases a swarm of Locust-Deathlas which rises into the sky like a tornado. On the border of Brazil and Argentina is Iguassu Falls, one of the largest waterfalls on Earth. On nights of the full moon, the Falls create a rainbow effect known as the "Spray of Iguassu". Mischa, a televison reporter doing a story on the night rainbow, has traveled to Iguassu with her younger brother Jim.

Iguassu Falls is the stunning site for the first war of the monsters. Mischa and Jim encounter the Locust-Deathlas in the rainforest. The alien swarm tears thru the jungle devouring all plant life it its path and accidentally uncover the hibernating body of Godzilla. As the King of the Monsters rises from the jungle floor with a roar of anger, the Locust-Deathlas transform into Monster-Deathla. After a brief battle, Deathla reverts to the swarm and flies north, with Godzilla and the kids in pursuit.

Godzilla and all related characters are a registered trademark of Toho Co. Ltd.

I can't wait for this movie to come out! As one of the biggest G fans ever, this will be really cool.

California Government Wrong Again

Court strikes down California video game law

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A federal appeals court on Friday struck down a California law that sought to ban the sale or rental of violent video games to minors.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the 2005 law violates minors' rights under the Constitution's First and 14th amendments. The three-judge panel's unanimous ruling upholds an earlier ruling in U.S. District Court.

The law would have prohibited the sale or rental of violent games to anyone under 18. It also would have created strict labeling requirements for video game manufacturers.

In a written opinion, Judge Consuelo Callahan said there were less restrictive ways to protect children from "unquestionably violent" video games. For example, the justices said the industry has a voluntary rating system and that parents can block certain games on video consoles.

The law's author, state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, said he wanted Attorney General Jerry Brown to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

"We need to help empower parents with the ultimate decision over whether or not their children play in a world of violence and murder," Yee, a child psychologist, said in a statement.

A spokesman for Brown said the attorney general would review the decision to determine the appropriate steps.

California lawmakers had approved the law, in part, by relying on studies suggesting violent games can be linked to aggression, anti-social behavior and desensitization to violence. The justices dismissed that research.

"None of the research establishes or suggests a causal link between minors playing violent video games and actual psychological or neurological harm, and inferences to that effect would not be reasonable," Callahan said in her ruling.

The law never took effect and was challenged shortly after it was signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. A U.S. District Court blocked it after the industry sued California over constitutional concerns.

Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Camille Anderson said the governor was reviewing Friday's ruling.

"The governor believes strongly we have a responsibility to our children and our communities to protect against the effects of video games depicting ultra-violent actions," she said.

The Encino-based Video Software Dealers Association, now known as the Entertainment Merchants Association following a merger, and the Washington, D.C.-based Entertainment Software Association argued that California's restrictions could open the door for states to limit minors' access to other material under the guise of protecting children.

The court agreed, saying California was "asking us to boldly go where no court has gone before."

"The state, in essence, asks us to create a new category of non-protected material based on its depiction of violence," Callahan wrote in the 30-page ruling.

Michael D. Gallagher, president of the Entertainment Software Association, said the ruling underscores that parents, with help from the industry, are the ones who should control what games their children play.

"This is a clear signal that in California and across the country, the reckless pursuit of anti-video game legislation like this is an exercise in wasting taxpayer money, government time and state resources," Gallagher said in a statement.

Courts in several other states have struck down similar laws.

With all the problems California has, YOU would think that they would not have time for some "gestapo" governmental interference like this. But, that's the good ole government for YOU. Hey, I have a novel idea, "instead of wasting tax payers time and money trying to control what games our kids play, why don't YOU come up with a plan to start drilling off your coast for oil, so YOU can get your state budget in order"?

Estelle Bennett Of The Ronettes Passes

Ronnie, Estelle & Nedra

Ronettes Estelle Bennett Crosses Over

Estelle Bennett, whose voice helped the Ronettes climb the charts on such hits as 'Be My Baby' and 'Baby, I Love You,' has died at 67. Her trio, working with producer Phil Spector, helped crystallize the famed "wall of sound" production that became part of pop music history.

Bennett's brother-in-law, Jonathan Greenfield, said police found her dead in her apartment in Englewood, N.J. on Wednesday after relatives had been unable to contact her. The time and cause of death have not yet been determined.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomed the Ronettes in 2007, with voting members calling the trio "the premier act of the girl group era." The Beatles and the Rolling Stones considered themselves fans; their exotic hairstyles and makeup are aped by
Amy Winehouse.

Greenfield is the manager and husband of Bennett's sister, Ronettes lead singer Ronnie Spector, who married producer Spector in 1968 but divorced him six years later.

The Ronettes - sisters Veronica "Ronnie" and Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley - signed with Spector's Philles Records in 1963. Their recording of the iconic hit single "Be My Baby" hit No. 2 on Billboard magazine's pop music chart that year. "Baby I Love You" followed in 1964.

They also did a memorable version of "Sleigh Ride" that appeared on Spector's "A Christmas Gift for You" album. Their last Philles single was "I Can Hear Music" in 1966. The songs feature Spector's elaborate arrangements that blend many instruments into a smooth, pulsating "wall."

"They could sing all their way right through a wall of sound," Keith Richards of the Stones said as the Ronettes were inducted into the rock hall. "They didn't need anything. They touched my heart right there and then and they touch it still."

But their string of hits had tailed off by the time they split around 1967.

Greenfield said Ronnie Spector was devastated over her sister's death. "Estelle was Ronnie's sidekick in the Ronettes," Greenfield, of Newbury, Conn., said Thursday.. "She was very much into fashion and worked with Ronnie on the whole look and style of the Ronettes."

After the group's breakup, Bennett rarely made public appearances. And for nearly 15 years, the trio waged a lengthy, and ultimately unsuccessful, court battle with producer Spector over royalties.

They sued Spector in the late 1980s, saying he had cheated them out of royalties by using their music in ways not authorized by the their recording contract. For example, "Be My Baby" was played in the opening credits of the smash 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing."

A trial was held in 1998, and in 2000, the judge ordered Spector to pay $2.6 million in past royalties and interest for the use of Ronettes songs as background music in movies, videocassette recordings, and advertising. But New York State's highest court threw out that ruling on appeal in 2002. The judges noted that the contract did not actually mention secondary rights to the use of music, so-called "synchronization rights," which are a more modern phenomenon in the entertainment industry. But under New York state contract law, the court said, the singers did not control those rights unless their contract specifically said they did.

At the group's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2007, Ronnie Spector did not mention her ex-husband, but he sent a note that was read at the ceremony saying, "I wish them all the happiness and good fortune the world has to offer." In recent years, Phil Spector has been battling criminal charges in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.

Bennett was born in 1941, her sister in 1943 and Talley in 1945, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Web site.

In addition to her sister, Bennett is survived by a daughter, Toyin Hunter of Santa Monica, Calif., and three grandsons.

Once again, we lose another entertainer from years past. Not only was Estelle a member of a ground breaking "girl group" in the early years of rock n' roll, she was a great soul in so many ways. How do I know, "I played guitar for the Ronettes for a few months back in the day". All three of the Ronettes were very good souls and were a pleasure to be around. For whatever reason, I just gravitated toward Estelle more. I think it was because she was so down to earth and laid back. She always had time. Though I have not seen or had contact with her for many many years, just knowing her physical self is no longer here, leaves an empty spot for many souls who knew her and loved her music.

Gap Band, Charlie Wilson, Bombs & Cancer

Charlie Wilson: Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

With the release of his second solo album, 'Uncle Charlie,' less than two weeks away, famed R&B artist Charlie Wilson has announced that he is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

The 'Yearning For Your Love' singer was diagnosed with the male reproductive system disease last fall and began therapy on Nov. 21. Wilson's sudden diagnosis has lead him to team up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to help raise awareness and research funds for prostate cancer.

"When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September, I thought to myself 'I'm too young... this isn't a cancer I should be getting,'" Wilson said in a statement. "While I was surprised to discover that this disease strikes one out of every six American men, I was astounded to learn that African American men are 1.6 times more likely than others to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. My wife, Mahin, and I are very fortunate. I was lucky to be diagnosed and begin treatment early. My prognosis is excellent."

The former
Gap Band frontman has already started utilizing his celebrity status to help inform more African American men on the illness. Men are 35 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than women are to be diagnosed with breast cancer.

"I am excited to be working with the PCF. They are the driving force behind many of the advances that have been made in prostate cancer treatment to date," says Wilson. "Their work has helped reduce the death rate by nearly 40 percent in the past few years. Together, I believe we can make an important impact.

"The Grammy-nominated artist also noted that his wife's support has played a major in his recent campaign. "We men don't want to consider or vocalize our vulnerabilities. It was my wife who kept after me to see my doctor for a screening," he revealed. "I thank God she did. Now I feel compelled to spread the word about prostate cancer."

This spring Wilson will be taking his message on the road with him and overseas to U.S. troops in Iraq and Kuwait while touring in support of his forthcoming album.

Charlie Wilson's 'Uncle Charlie,' featuring the top-ten single 'There Goes My Baby,' hits stores and digital retailers on Feb. 17.

We are all with YOU Charlie! Much success with the new album and continued progress with your health.

Grace Jones Is Back Like A "Hurricane"

Grace Jones at the Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow - review

A hypnotic 60-year-old Grace Jones performed new, fuller, rounder and richer songs at her comeback tour in Glasgow.

Grace Jones waited 19 years before releasing 2008's Hurricane. The recent ubiquity of single William's Blood shows she can still turn out a radio monster when she has to, but she now faces the sterner test of a major comeback tour.

The predominantly middle-aged Glasgow crowd had dressed pin-sharp for the style icon's return, but initially stayed quiet, and it looked as though the 60-year-old Jones had asked too much of herself.

She looked a diminished presence, but then in second song This Is she stepped down from her podium and strode the width of the stage, turning her face full to the crowd. Her eyes flashed a savage light and she sang the words through a tooth-baring grimace. Handfuls of multicoloured glitter gave angular, gritty glamour to her face as she glowered at the crowd.

The hall that had seemed so cavernous, cold and quiet a minute ago suddenly shrank in size. Grace Jones had declared her possession of the place and everyone in it.

It was a moment that showed the urgent power of a born performer, and there were more to come. Also to come was empty musical filler, but this was quickly forgotten in Jones's wild glare.

Each song brought a costume change, and the metallic red plate that stuck to her forehead for Demolition Man made a trinity with the two cymbals she smashed gleefully together, her statue-stance and the symmetry of the poses adding demonic weight to a funny, self-aware tirade.

Later she donned a spangly hat that became a glitter ball under a spotlight, then a hula hoop which she spun throughout an extended Slave To The Rhythm.

The new songs sounded fuller, rounder and richer than the old, but nothing sounded like William's Blood. Jones's strong, controlled voice gathered velvety gospel rasp in the snaking melodies of the song's verse, and the angelic pre-chorus soared.

The chorus, though, hit like a physical force. Guitars burst into distorted squawl and there stood Jones centre stage, her dominating presence reaching deep into the hall, her body grinding and bumping and stomping to the music's malicious thump. Then, as quickly as it had come, the moment floated away and the song dissolved into blissed-out rave. It was breath-shorteningly exciting.

This was not about the music, which periodically sagged, or the costumes, or the dancing, or her still-iconic posturing. It was about Jones's incredible alchemy, which delivered flashing moments of sensory delight: fleeting, powerful and unique.

It is so cool to see one of my favorite all time entertainers back bigtime. I have been a Grace Jones fan ever since I first heard "Pull Up To The Bumper" back in the day. Grace is one of those souls that is going to be her, like it or not. Too bad there are not more souls of that nature. I can't wait for her to come around this part of the world so I can check her live show out. In the meantime, I am posting two videos off the newest album. Enjoy!

The Furry Freak Brothers & Fat Freddy's Cat

There is so much "serious" crap going on on the planet these days, I figured we needed a comedic break. What better way to "chill", than the "Furry Freak Brothers & Fat Freddy's Cat". For those of YOU that were not "hip" enough to be into these legends, or, to young, read the following and then watch the video. Enjoy!

Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers are a trio of
underground comic strip characters created by the U.S. artist Gilbert Shelton. Their first comic book appearance was in Feds 'n' Heads, published by Berkeley's Print Mint in 1968. In 1969 Shelton and three friends from Texas founded Rip Off Press in San Francisco, which took over publication of all subsequent Freak Brothers comix. The first compilation of their adventures, The Collected Adventures of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, had its first printing in 1971 and has been continually in print ever since. In addition to underground and college weekly newspapers, new adventures appeared in magazines such as Playboy , High Times, and Rip Off Comix; these too were collected in comic book form. Shelton continued to write the series until 1992, in collaboration with Dave Sheridan (1974-1982) and Paul Mavrides (since 1978). The work enjoys a sizable cult following, and the magazines are widely available in comic stores.

While most underground comix are humorous, the Freak Brothers live a slapstick existence reminiscent of the best silent comedies. Their entire lives rotate around the procurement and enjoyment of recreational drugs, particularly
marijuana. None of them have the slightest concern about gainful employment, and the only use for money is to procure some food and lots of drugs without getting "burned" by unscrupulous dealers or busted by the police. Other storylines include "Fat Freddie's Cat" and a military empire of cockroaches in the kitchen. The stories often satirize the establishment and right-wing politics. For a counterculture production, the standard of artwork is exceptionally high; Shelton's striving for accuracy and attention to detail have earned him comparisons with Hergé.

The majority of the titles in the series consist of one or more multi-page stories together with a number of one-page strips. Many of the latter have a one-row skit featuring
Fat Freddy's Cat at the bottom of the page. Some of the titles also contain a small number of strips featuring completely unrelated characters.

The comic is currently being adapted into a movie using
stop-motion animated rubber figurines.

I don't know about where YOU live, but, where I live, the local newspaper has become pretty much a non entity as far as content. Especially covering national and international news. In order to stay on top of "global events", YOU have to have the latest from around the planet. I am listing a couple of cool sites that I get a wealth of info from. Hope YOU enjoy, and, if YOU have any intersting news outlets, let me know.

Robert Plant, "No Zeppelin Tour For Me"

Plant Suggests He's Too Old for Zeppelin Reunion

Robert Plant has completely ruled out getting back together with
Led Zeppelin for a concert tour. In a rare live interview, the singer, 60, suggested to BBC Radio Wales this weekend that he has gotten too old for lengthy hard rock shows and has moved on to other things.

"I'm doing very well with Alison [Krauss], and I'm enjoying that," Plant said, while confessing that he still kept in touch regularly with Jimmy Page.

"I still see Jimmy quite a lot and he's very complimentary and supportive of what I'm doing," Page said about the Zeppelin guitarist. "But we are in different places now, and you have to go on to do different things.

"When asked directly about the likelihood of a Led Zep reunion, Plant joked of being too old. "Do you know how long it took me to climb up onto the stage here? And it's only four steps!"

I was really looking forward to a Led Zeppelin Tour with all the remaining members. Does not look like it will happen though. Oh well. Hey, I'll settle for an album!
